Dale Ness, Director of Engineering
Dale earned his Masters in Physics from University of Pittsburgh and has worked at University of Arizona and Research Electro-Optics in Colorado, where he led efforts in product and thin film process development, including a patent on thin film layer control.
Bob Schalck, Optical Development Engineer
Bob Schalck has for 30 years fabricated and tested optics for JDSU, OCLI, Humphrey Instruments (Carl Zeiss), Spectra Physics, and Tinsley before coming to Hardin Optical. He has vast experience in research and development, as well as a background in quality assurance. In addition to his "hands on" time in the lab, Bob develops proposals and works directly with the Hardin Optical technical staff.
Bob Burns worked for Thiokol Corporation, Sperry, and Martin Marietta for over 25 years, he focused on systems development and on payload and integration in both engineering and contract management capacities. Bob holds a Masters degree in Business with undergraduate and graduate work in Physics. He also developed and implemented a design-build approach for a multi-billion dollar major highway construction program for the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Bill Shadbolt, Customer Liaison Coordinator/Senior Process Analyst
Bill has worked at Hardin Optical for over 25 years, filling many roles including technician, inspector, QA manager, production supervisor, and process analyst. He works closely with customers and suppliers to assure the quality and timeliness of deliveries. Bill has been an integral part of developing and implementing new processes within the production area.
Jimy Martin, Special Projects Lead
Jimy has 25 years of optical experience gained while working at Spectra Physics and then Research Electo-Optics before coming to Hardin Optical. She is a Master Optician and supports the entire special project process from fabrication all the way through to final inspection.
Doug Shellhart, Lead Machinist/Manufacturing Engineer
Doug has over 30 years of high-precision machining experience and has worked with companies such as Raytheon and Vetco Gray. Doug obtained his Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering in 1979. He has extensive experience in CNC programming, CAD/CAM, and tool design which enables him to translate prototype concepts into finished items. While at Raytheon, Doug was an integral part of the design and manufacture team for their Patriot Missile Program as well as the radar jamming system. At Vetco Gray, Doug designed the proto-type model for the subsea oil reclamation unit and engineered and manufactured the blowout preventer for that unit. He has maintained affiliations with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and has been a Senior Manufacturing Engineer member since 1984.
Bob Pease, Special Projects Technician
Bob Pease has 30 years of optical fabrication experience and has worked for Rockwell International, Rand Precision Optics, and Perkin-Elmer Corp. Throughout his career Bob has worked in research and development, tooling design, and process development and implementation. He has worked on such projects as ring laser gyro inertial navigation systems for the Minuteman Missile, electrostatic gyro for Trident and Polaris submarines, and Sidewinder Missile optics.
